Abdominal fat in men: how to lose it?

Fight sedentary lifestyle to lose belly

Abdominal obesity is not to be taken lightly. Its management is primarily based on the modification of lifestyle, and in particular on physical activity, an essential condition for the melting of visceral fat. The goal is to increase and maintain an often reduced abdominal muscle mass. So, even if the weight displayed on the scale changes little, do not be discouraged: while the visceral fats melt, the muscles gain mass. Remember that the important thing is the waist measurement!

In addition to reducing visceral fat, physical activity increases sugar uptake and therefore reduces the resistance to insulin that is conventionally observed in people with abdominal obesity. This often precedes the onset of type 2 diabetes. In addition, it lowers blood pressure by 4 to 5 mm Hg on average.

How do you know if you're getting enough physical activity?

People who do less than 30 minutes of moderate to intense physical activity, i.e. causing shortness of breath, are considered physically inactive. Regularity is important: it is not enough to ride a 2 h 3 bike on Sunday morning to no longer be considered "sedentary".

What physical activities are recommended?

The four main types of physical activity recommended are walking, running, cycling and swimming. Of course, they are not mutually exclusive: the important thing is that the activity is regular and includes at least three sessions per week (from 30 minutes to 1 hour). It is possible to combine abdominal weight training to melt the equally unsightly subcutaneous fat. In this way, the efforts made translate into visible results, which is very encouraging.

Tip: playing sports is better for two!

Try to resume physical activity with a partner who has the same problem: this can give you additional motivation. Share your victories, discuss the obstacles you encounter and the solutions you can bring!
